The hotel to be run by TUI comprises a central building, a thermal bath and hotel accommodation units surrounded by the natural space of the Rantum Basin , by mud-flats, marsh areas, dunes and beaches. The conditions typical of the Sylt location, sandy soils and strong winds, constitute the central motive of the concept.
The hotel units are arranged in groups within a topographical framework in terms of dry-stone walls -so called ‘Friesian walls’. They set a spatial and functional border between the main building, the thermal bath, the adjoining Hafenstrasse and the protected biotopes at the Rantum Basin and thus provide hotel units embedded in the landscape and protected from the winds. The predominantly extensive planting of the open spaces favours the development of dry lawn and heathland which is a decisive asset to compensate for the intervention into a sensitive natural space.
