With the development of a new suburb for the city of Mainz a sustainable and flexible urban structure is to be created by linking landscape and urban elements.
The dialogue with the landscape becomes the structuring principle for an open urban system. Even before the suburb develops, the surrounding landscape is integrated as a network into the area. The suburb grows into a landscape system which, at urban level, transforms itself into a network of useable open spaces. The organisational principle 'Urban Network' creates a flexible structure which can integrate the most diverse types of uses and architectures turning flexibility into sustainability.
